Description

second installment of my portrait a day challenge. Tried to go a little bit more realistic with shading which is rather difficult with a mechanical pencil ONLY! all my art stuff is still at university.... i'm gonna run out of graphite before i know it haha.

took me roughly an hour and a half... maybe 2 hours but that's with breaks and distractions in between lol.

I think his left eye (our right) is a bit on the small side, his lips might be a bit big and i really need to learn how to draw realistic hair haha. if you spot anything else out then please go ahead and eat me alive. i want to get photorealistic good. obviously quite difficult with just a mechanical pencil for now but that's the aim

thanks in advance

The curse of realism is that if something looks off, its really easy to pick out.

Here, you did a phenomenal job with the lining and shading. There were little hard lines, and the shading itself defined contours on the face.

However, the eyes are a tad small, giving the impression of an overly long face. I checked out some photo references of him, and I can only chalk the reason for this feeling to be how you cropped the piece (or rather, how you took the shot for it). Some negative space around the hair, and being able to see the entire figure of the head down to the chest, would have mitigated this feeling.

The drawing itself is solid, but it helps to plan and stage things for a more aesthetic touch, if you get my drift? Just something to consider :)
